About
Mara Vance is a painter whose work moves between gestural abstraction and quiet observation. Working primarily in oil and acrylic, she is drawn to the point where a recognizable subject starts to come apart into color and mark. Recent series look at reflection, geometry, and the ordinary still life as a way to slow down looking. This is a demonstration portfolio used to review the app. The images are public-domain paintings and the details are fictional.
Creative Practice
I build paintings in layers, letting each pass respond to the one before it. Some works start from something I have seen, a pond or a field or a table, and others start from nothing but a color relationship I want to test. Either way the goal is the same: to keep the surface alive and a little unresolved.
